HKIAA’s 6th intake of the Cadet Pilot Programme (CPP) recently completed the Theoretical Knowledge Instruction (TKI). Some of the students formed the first group to arrive at Civil Aviation Flight University of China (CAFUC) in Chengdu, China to commence flying training in late October.
HKIAA’s President Simon Li, Director of Academy Richard Wu, and Director, Flight Training and Engineering Jack Ip went to Chengdu to witness this important moment. Victor Liu, Director-General of Civil Aviation Department (CAD) of the Hong Kong Government, Guan Lixin, President of CAFUC, and other CAFUC leadership also attended this meaningful opening ceremony.
This collaboration between HKIAA & CAFUC at Chengdu not only provides an additional flight training base for HKIAA’s CPP students but also marks a new chapter in civil aviation development for Hong Kong , laying a strong foundation for the long-term growth of the aviation industry in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and Mainland China.
In May 2025, HKIAA and CAFUC were approved by CAD under CAD 509 (A) as Flying Training Organisations. The two organisations will leverage their respective expertise and resources, establishing a mutually beneficial cooperative relationship, including the future mutual recognition of professional pilot’s licences between Hong Kong and Mainland China.
The students in Chengdu will undergo 8–10 months of flying training at CAFUC, after which they will return to Hong Kong for the Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) course. Upon completion of the MCC course, they will be eligible to apply for the grant of a Commercial Pilot’s Licence from CAD, bringing them closer to their flying dreams.
