Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (HKIAA) participated in Super Terminal Expo (STE) 2025 on 4-6 November 2025 at AsiaWorld-Expo.
HKIAA was among six strategic partners, which included International Cooperation and Service Center (ICSCC) of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), HKIA Consultancy, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), Aviation Week Network, and Global Airport Development (GAD). Organised by Informa Markets, STE 2025 was also supported by the Belt and Road Office of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau and the Working Group on Developing Low-altitude Economy of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People’s Republic of China.
Besides setting up an exhibition booth where visitors were able to learn about the training programmes and courses available at its campus, HKIAA also extended its support to the conference streams at the event.
Riding on the Civil Aviation Administration of China’s visions of the Air Silk Road, HKIAA co-organised with HKIA Consultancy the Air Silk Forum to explore the different facets of its role in the collective Belt and Road Initiative and its outlook on civil aviation development in the years to come.
Joining the audience were the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the Hong Kong SAR, represented by Lu Ke, Deputy Director of the Department of International Organisations and Conferences, as well as Consulate General representatives from Belarus, Kuwait, Pakistan, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Türkiye, and Zimbabwe, among other delegates of STE 2025.
The afternoon was kicked off by Liu Fang, Former Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) who shared about the collaborations along the Air Silk Road and how the various endeavours were in alignment with ICAO’s No Country Left Behind initiative.
Zhang Qing, Director General of the Department of Development Planning of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) then delivered a keynote message on promoting high-quality development of the Air Silk Road and how China is writing a new chapter in enhancing connectivity, not just for itself but for its international partners globally.
M.A.K. Prasanna, Deputy Director General – Aeronautical Services Regulation, Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka presented on the prospects and demands in Sri Lanka’s aviation landscape, updating the audience on the progress of their various initiatives and infrastructure development as one of the countries along the Air Silk Road.
Nicholas Ho, Commissioner for Belt and Road of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the Government of the HKSAR spoke about Hong Kong’s aspirations and efforts on the Air Silk Road.
To further illustrate, Chapman Fong, Director, Hub Development of Airport Authority Hong Kong shared about HKIA’s connectivity with the Air Silk Road and the initiatives adopted by the airport.
Volkan Solmaz, Vice President, Asia Pacific of Turkish Cargo, brought the perspective of another country along the Air Silk Road, Türkiye, sharing the key success factors undertaken by the cargo airline for the supply chain infrastructure.
A CEO Panel featuring distinguished speakers from ASM, AtkinsRéalis, the Hong Kong Shipper's Council, SITA, China West Airport (Xi'An) Business Development Company Ltd., came together to further deliberate on the role of air connectivity within the Air Silk Road framework.
On the second day of the event, HKIAA President Simon Li, who also served on STE 2025’s Advisory Board, kicked off the Low-altitude Economy (LAE) Forum with a keynote message highlighting the many challenges the industry faces. Amid the challenges, he also noted the many opportunities this breakthrough economy will bring.
Also presenting keynote messages were Joan Hung, Deputy Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the Transport and Logistics Bureau, and Man-Ho Hui, Assistant Director-General of Civil Aviation (ATM) at the Civil Aviation Department of the Government of the HKSAR.
The rest of the LAE Forum comprised other insightful panel discussions by key industry stakeholders and experts seeking to advocate for the advancement of the low-altitude economy.
STE 2025 is a pioneering event showcasing innovations in intermodal terminal design, construction, and operations, complemented by a diverse exhibition and thought-provoking conference sessions.
