HKIAA Holds Graduation Ceremony for the First Batch of Mainland Students from the GBA Youth Aviation Industry Internship Programme
On 7 May 2024, the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (HKIAA) held a Graduation Ceremony for the first batch of students from the GBA Youth Aviation Industry Internship Programme (the Programme). After a year of structured classroom learning at HKIAA and internships at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), these students achieved remarkable results. Over 90% of them received job offers following their internships and are poised to contribute to the local aviation industry through the Labour Importation Scheme.
The Programme is organised by the HKIAA and relevant aviation training colleges from the Mainland, aiming to nurture young talent and build up the talent pool in Hong Kong and the Mainland. The first batch of students from the Guangdong Polytechnic of Science and Technology's Flight Attendant Faculty started a one-year internship at four passenger handling agents at HKIA in May 2023. They also received classroom learning at HKIAA once a week, which covered topics such as Basic Airport Operations, Customer Services Excellence, Practical Aviation English and Communication Skills. The programme’s seamless arrangements include student recruitment, classroom study, student coaching, provision of student accommodation, and job matching and placement with airport business partners.
Simon Li, President of HKIAA, and the senior management from participating airport business partners attended the ceremony. In addition to awarding graduation certificates, Mr Li also presented the "Outstanding Students Award" to students in recognition of their exemplary academic and internship performance. Mr Li praised the students’ learning and working performance, which satisfied both HKIAA and their employers. “After working in one of the world’s busiest international airports for a year, I truly believe your communication skills with passengers coming from around the world and industry experience have been greatly enhanced.” Mr Li is grateful to the AAHK, authorities in the Mainland, and business partners for their support in this programme, underscoring the collective commitment to promoting the sustainable development of the aviation industry.
