HKIAA Achieves ACI-ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Programme Dual Recognition
The Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (HKIAA) has been awarded the prestigious ICAO Platinum member / Training Centre of Excellence (TCE) in the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme (TPP), advancing from its previous Gold Full Member status. In addition to the recognition as an ACI-accredited Training Partner, HKIAA becomes the second organisation in the world to receive an ACI-ICAO TPP-Airport dual recognition after Incheon Airport. The recognitions were presented to HKIAA during the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2023 (GISS) hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and the Transport Republic of Korea in Seoul on 31 May 2023.
Mr Simon Li, President of HKIAA, expressed his excitement, "We are honoured to receive the ICAO Platinum member / TCE in the TPP. HKIAA has provided a diverse range of programmes and courses to over 230,000 local, Mainland, and overseas participants since 2017. We are thrilled that our continuous efforts and active engagement with ICAO TPP are acknowledged. Looking ahead, we shall further innovate and expand our courses for regional aviation talent. We will strive to be the pioneer incubator to nurture and enrich industry specialists to serve the ever-growing aviation industry."
HKIAA has been a member of the ICAO TPP since June 2017, acquiring Full Membership and Gold Full Membership in 2019 and 2022 respectively. Since its inception, HKIAA has always been supporting ICAO TPP in its capacity-building efforts by delivering extensive ICAO training programmes. The ICAO Platinum / TCE is the highest recognition under the newly revamped Programme.
In addition to receiving the recognitions, Mr Li was invited to speak at the Panel “The Future of Civil Aviation Training in a Digital World” at the GISS, sharing insights on the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation in aviation training and exploring how training institutions can embrace digital transformation and adapt to the changing landscape. After the panel sharing, HKIAA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman Airports Management Company S.A.O.C (OMAC) to further strengthen the training partnership established last year.
Looking into the future, HKIAA will continue proactively promoting collaborations in aviation training in the Mainland and around the region. To support the substantial industry growth in the Mainland, HKIAA has been strengthening aviation training for young talent, leveraging on its Greater Bay Area (GBA) Youth Aviation Industry Internship Programme debuted in May 2023, and a commercial airline pilot training programme planned to be launched this year. Following the success of the Advanced Master in Air Transport Management which is co-organised with Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile (ENAC), HKIAA is working with ENAC to offer a new Advanced Master programme in Aviation Safety Management in Hong Kong, preparing aviation executives in the Mainland and belt-and-road regions to meet the challenges of their roles in aviation management.
