HKIAA Welcomes First Batch of Mainland Students from the GBA Youth Aviation Industry Internship Programme
The GBA Youth Aviation Industry Internship Programme, organised by the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (HKIAA) and relevant aviation training colleges from the Mainland, officially commenced in Zhuhai on 10 May 2023. On 12 May 2023, the first batch of students from the Greater Bay Area (GBA) arrived in Hong Kong for a one-year programme that includes structured classroom learning at HKIAA and internship assignment to gain work experience at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).
With the aim of nurturing young talent and building up the talent pool in the GBA, the programme echoes HKIAA's mission to support the continuous development of the regional aviation industry. Leveraging the extensive experience in providing the hybrid learn-and-work study model from its accredited programme, "Diploma in Aviation Operations", HKIAA offers a seamless programme, from student recruitment and securing job placements from business partners to job matching, classroom study, student coaching, and provision of student accommodation.
The first batch of 38 students from the Guangdong Polytechnic of Science and Technology's Flight Attendant Faculty will start their one-year internship at four passenger handling agents at HKIA after the first-week orientation. Students will also receive classroom learning once a week that covers topics including Basic Airport Operations, Customer Services Excellence, Practical Aviation English and Communication Skills.
Mr Simon Li, President of HKIAA, encouraged students to seize this valuable learning opportunity. “With the practical skills that you will acquire from your internship and the in-depth knowledge sharing from our professional instructors, not only could you strengthen your work capability but also build up experience that will help you prepare for more exciting job opportunities to come.” Additional students from the Mainland will join the programme later this year.
