Upskilling and Developing Oneself Step by Step

Clarence Li, Graduate, 2021 Professional Diploma in Aviation Management, shares about realising his aviation dream through progressive pursuit of higher qualifications.

As an aviation enthusiast, Clarence Li (Clarence) has always dreamed of soaring in the sky.

He put a lot of effort into realising his dream of working at an airport and went above and beyond, not just talking about it. He started by participating in HKIAA’s Aviation Summer Day Camps.

After completing his Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education, Clarence joined the Diploma in Aviation Operations (DAO) programme at HKIAA.

The DAO programme combines classroom learning with industry placement and Clarence was able to get placement in his first choice, leading to him working as a Flight Plan Officer at a ground handling agency. There, he was responsible for preparing various flight documents according to the requirements of different countries. “This job required me to be in the cockpit, from where I got to interact with pilots, bringing me closer to my aspiration step by step.”

After graduating the DAO programme, Clarence progressed to the Professional Diploma in Aviation Management, where a wider range of aviation management topics are covered. It not only enabled Clarence to continue growing and advancing in his future career but also cleared the path for him to pursue higher qualifications.

“My goal is to become a cadet pilot or a Student Air Traffic Control Officer at the Civil Aviation Department. To fulfil my dreams, I would keep upskilling and develop myself continuously and fuel my passion for making my lifelong aviation dream come true.”

By now, Clarence has also completed the top-up degree programme and graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).
