Finding Direction, Becoming More Professional

Lindy Wan, Graduate, 2023 Professional Diploma in Aviation Management, shared how the programme inspired her to pursue further professional development in aviation.

Having worked in airport security for over nine years, Lindy Wan is responsible for monitoring systems and CCTV at the Integrated Airport Centre (IAC), coordinating crucial communications with both internal and external stakeholders, including the Police, the Airport Authority Hong Kong, and Customs.

Although she already holds a degree, Lindy enrolled in the Professional Diploma in Aviation Management (PDAM) at Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (HKIAA) to systematise her hands-on experience and gain specialised knowledge in aviation management. She wanted to combine frontline practice with management theory to strengthen her professional competitiveness.

What impressed Lindy most were the field visits: "Instructors took us to areas even some airport staff rarely visit, such as the apron and baggage handling zones, which gave me a fuller understanding of operations. " Together with instructors' explanations and classmates' cross-sector experience sharing, these visits enabled her to apply classroom learning directly to real-world situations and truly learn by doing. "In particular, during the transition to the Three-Runway System, I applied the management skills learned in PDAM to help colleagues from other departments adapt to the new environment. Supporting colleagues always goes beyond arranging workflows; it also means offering sincere care to help them adjust faster. This will thereby improve overall operational efficiency and team coordination.”

Upon graduating from the PDAM programme, Lindy became more engaged with global aviation developments and began actively following international aviation news, gaining a clearer view of Hong Kong International Airport' s role and opportunities as a regional hub. To deepen her expertise, she is now pursuing the Advanced Master in Air Transport Management, a programme jointly offered by HKIAA and Ecole Nationale de l' Aviation Civile, aiming to bring more solid knowledge to support airport safety and operations in the future.
